Makkah authorities seeking crowd-management solutions
MAKKAH: The Makkah and Holy Sites Development Authority (MHSDA) discussed ways to solve the traffic and pedestrian rush in areas close to the Grand Mosque, particularly in the seasons of Haj and Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
Governor of Makkah Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is the chairman of MHSDA, chaired the meeting held at his office in Makkah.
The meeting also reviewed proposals to increase the capacity of the Grand Mosque, the Mataf (the area for circumambulation of the Kaaba) and the courtyards, enabling the smooth entry and exit of people in the Grand Mosque. They also discussed crowd management in addition to other services to be provided to pilgrims.
Makkah Mayor Osama Al-Barr, Makkah Governor's Office Undersecretary Abdul Aziz Al-Khodairy and Secretary-General of the MHSDA Sami Barhamin attended the meeting.
